Disassembling the Nikon FE2
Basic Knowledge
The Nikon FE2 uses an electronic shutter, meaning the shutter will not function in modes other than B or M250 without a battery. This aspect is unchanged from the Nikon FE.

Removing the Top Cover
Step 1: Set to Bulb Mode and Remove the Back Cover
- Switch to bulb mode.
- Open the back cover by moving the lever on the side of the rewind crank to the left while pulling up the crank.
- Push down the pin at the hinge to detach the back cover.
Step 2: Advance Lever
- Peel off the leather covering to reveal the notched screw (regular threaded). Alternatively, you can remove it using a rubber mat without peeling the leather.
- The lever is attached to the body with a wire. Remove the wire using a flathead screwdriver before pulling the lever out.
- Leave the plastic lever below (multi-exposure switch) in place.
Step 3: Rewind Crank
- Secure the fork in the film chamber, then rotate the crank to remove it. Fold and turn the knob as necessary.
- Remove the washer and spring.
- Take out the C-clip.
- There is a metal part with a spring. Stretch the spring and release the metal part from the shaft gap to pull it out.
Note: The forked shaft will drop at this stage. After removing the metal part from the groove, temporarily hook it back onto the shaft before pulling it out completely.
Step 4: Central Screws and ASA Dial
- Remove the three central screws. One of these screws has a unique shape.
- Use round pliers to grip and turn it like a regular screw to remove it.
- Pull the ASA sensitivity dial upward.
- Next, remove the three screws below it to detach the plastic parts.
Step 5: Shutter Dial
- Loosen the three grub screws on the side and lift the dial off.
Removing Screws Around the Body
- Remove the screws near the nameplate (2 screws), the sides (2 screws), and the rear (1 screw).
Cleaning the Viewfinder
Optional: If you are familiar with soldering, disconnecting one wire will make the process easier. In this guide, the process is completed without removing the wire. The prism will not be separated.
- Remove the screw indicated by the arrow.
- Detach the metal part holding down the circuit board by removing the central screw.
- Remove the screws on both sides of the eyepiece indicated by the arrows.
Note: It is easier to remove the light blue wire seen in the bottom left of the image. In this guide, the wire remains attached.
- The light blue wire may be tight, making the eyepiece difficult to remove. Use alcohol to weaken the adhesive and gently peel the wire off the body for more flexibility.
- Once loosened, the circuit board can be lifted upward, allowing access to clean the prism and the back of the eyepiece.
Cautions When Cleaning the Viewfinder
Under the screws next to the eyepiece, there are washers. Be careful not to misalign or lose them during the process.
Conclusion
This completes the disassembly of the Nikon FE2.
